lake george - ANCA Gallery, Canberra, 21 March - 8 April 2007

I have been driving by Lake George for over ten years now and have seen it at many different times of the day.

In producing the work for the exhibition at the ANCA gallery I used a very similar process of art making to Constable - going out into the landscape to sketch and then taking the sketches back to my studio to produce the larger work.

Natural pigments from the landscape were used in these paintings and then I worked with thin layers of oil paint to build up the colour and texture of the larger works.

The challenge was increasingly how to create a feeling of nothingness, by limiting the amount of pigment so that the natural texture of the canvas itself became an intrinsic part of the work.

"In the awareness state of stillness, the mind and body become one. At that moment the mind is boundless and beyond imagination. Images emerge naturally from the mind in spontaneous brushwork."
