I’ve been working with cable ties for around five years. It all started when I initiated a group exhibition ‘The Big Wrap" which brought together a group of nine Canberra-based textile artists who explored the concept of wrapping and the wrap as a metaphor. Listening to them talk about their ideas, and as I happened to have an oversupply of cable ties lying around my studio, I started to loop the ties together in a fairly unstructured way to create a work for the exhibition called "Emergence 0: Cloak".
Since that time I have created 2 cable installations, the second called "Emergence 1: The Transfiguration". I'm currently working on a third, called "Black Velvet, Dark Night".
Each of my cable tie installations are realised through a process of knowingness where the works create themselves from some spiritual connection inside/outside of myself.
